Born in Ohio, I earned a degree in journalism (minor in rowing) from University of Oregon and a master of fine arts from University of Washington. Publications include This Dirty Little Heart (2007 Blue Lynx Poetry Prize); Shake it up and throw it at something hard (Essay Press; 2016); and The Manual of Small Wars (PressBoard Press; 2017).
For more than 20 years, I lived, worked, made stuff, and ate a lot of pie in Portland, Oregon. In late 2012, I moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with a fraction of my family and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts; in 2016 to Jakarta, Indonesia; in 2018 to Amsterdam, Netherlands; and in 2022 to Lopez Island, Washington, once home to the Samish and Lummi Peoples, appropriated by the U.S. government in the 19th century. There’s so much to talk about. Holler when you’re close, and I’ll put the kettle on.
